About Fair Service Heating and Air Conditioning Ltd.
A Winnipeg HVAC Company Started by a Tradesman Who Wanted His Own Shop
Fair Service Heating and Air Conditioning began in 2008, building from a partnership into the incorporated company that now serves homes across Winnipeg. Felix Gelman immigrated to Canada in 2005 through Manitoba’s Provincial Nominee Program, with his HVAC background helping qualify him for the program.
He spent his first years here working for other HVAC companies before launching his own. “I always wanted to have my own business,” Felix says. The partnership formed in 2008, and by 2010 Fair Service Heating was incorporated as the company customers know today.
What a Five-Star HVAC Service Call Looks Like
Felix says a good job comes down to two inseparable things: the quality of the work and how the customer is treated. In his view, a happy customer needs both — the equipment and installation done right, and to feel respected through the process.
That standard shows up consistently in the reviews. Travis writes that across three separate visits, Fair Service’s technicians “have been professional, reliable, and punctual. They are meticulous in their work and always ensure the workspace is left clean. I particularly appreciate that they provide honest assessments and focus on realistic cost efficient solutions rather than trying to oversell unnecessary services or products.”
Furnace Repair, Air Conditioning, Heat Pumps, and Water Heaters in Winnipeg
Fair Service handles the full residential HVAC range: furnace repair, installation, and replacement; air conditioner installation and repair; heat pumps and mini-split systems; water heater service; HRV systems; and indoor air quality work. Felix says they service all brands and serve all of Winnipeg, with availability around the clock for emergencies.
Reviewers often name the technicians by name. Calvin mentions Mike, Oleksandr, and Sebastian on a complete upgrade — “friendly, super clean work and on time.” Ronald and another reviewer both credit Alex for diagnosing furnace issues and walking them through the repair as he worked. Flora describes a larger retrofit with HRV and heat pumps: two outdoor units and seven indoor units, with Mike leading the team of Zorick, Alex, and Sebastian.
Red Seal Certified, Premier Lennox Dealer, Efficiency Manitoba Contractor
Felix holds a Red Seal in refrigeration, and the company maintains licensed gas fitter credentials. Fair Service is a registered contractor with Efficiency Manitoba and a Premier Lennox dealer, with RUUD as another product line they sell and service. Lennox is the primary brand, and they work on all brands customers already have installed.
Free Heat Pumps Through the Efficiency Manitoba EEAP Program
One program Felix points customers toward is the heat pump option through Efficiency Manitoba’s Energy Efficiency Assistance Program (EEAP). For income-qualifying Winnipeg homeowners whose homes are heated electrically — with baseboards or an electric furnace — the program covers a full heat pump installation at no cost to the homeowner. Felix notes that a typical install can represent around $20,000 in work the homeowner doesn’t pay for.
He recently completed one of those installs — a five-head heat pump with the outdoor condenser, a roughly four-to-five-day job — for a customer who did not pay a dime out of pocket. Felix notes that homeowners on a gas furnace can still qualify for high-efficiency furnace upgrades through Efficiency Manitoba at a low monthly payment, though the free heat pump program is reserved for homes that heat electrically. Many Winnipeggers don’t realize the program exists, which is part of why he makes sure to keep bringing it up.
What Felix Wishes Customers Knew Before Hiring an HVAC Company
His advice for anyone hiring an HVAC company in Winnipeg is straightforward. “Look at the reviews. Ask people. Choose a reputable company,” he says. “It doesn’t mean choose the biggest one — the biggest companies usually won’t give you the same level of service as the smaller ones.”
Outside the Business
When Felix isn’t running Fair Service, he is usually outdoors. Hiking, kayaking, and camping are on the regular list, and he travels overseas when he can.
